He became famous after shooting the first film about the Rwandan genocide in 2001 in collaboration with the British filmmaker Nick Hughes. “100 days”, a first feature film about the genocide was followed by documentary titled “Keepers of Memory” in which he interviewed victims and perpetrators of the genocide.

Eric Kabera established The Rwanda Cinema Center for the promotion of the Rwandan film industry. The center initiated by holding the annual Rwanda Film Festival in 2005. The festival is entitled “travelling” since it broadcasts films not only in the capital of Kigali, but in rural areas around the country as well. Since 2007, the film maker has started a project of the first movie theatre in Kigali.
