Ivan Mikloš started his political career in 1991 when he became a minister of Privatization for one year. In 1992 he became a member of Public against Violence. From 1993 to 2000, he was chairman of the Democratic Party for 7 years. After that in 2001, he became a member of SDKÚ-DS. From 1998, Mikloš held more important offices including: member of supervisory board of National Property Fund of the Slovak Republic (1997-1998), deputy prime minister for economic affairs of the Slovak Republic (1998-2002), deputy prime minister and Minister of Finance for the Slovak Republic (2002-2006) and once again in 20010-2012. Ivan Mikloš significantly contributed to the entry of the Slovak Republic into the OECD and started an extensive and effective tax reform.
