The island of Samos is one of the largest in Greece and is located in the Aegean Sea connecting Greece and Turkey. It has recently come into the limelight due to the severe refugee crisis, and will soon be hosting an international music festival organized by the Schwarz Institute to bring together established musicians and young talents from all over the globe.

About a year after the Greek islands refugee crisis attracted international media attention, the beautiful island of Samos is hosting an international cultural event which will attract attention for another reason.

The Young Artists Festival will be held on the island of Samos for the seventh consecutive year. Organized by the Schwarz Foundation, a German-Greek NGO which engages in the field of Arts & Culture, the festival aspires to use music to create a bridge for communication between countries and a platform for cultural dialogue, coexistence and mutual understanding.

This year, the festival will take place at the Ancient Theater of Pythagorion Port, from August 7th to 13th. It will host artists from Greece, Germany, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Hungary, Argentina and USA, who will present music works in various styles: from classical to jazz, opera and folklore, under the artistic direction of the famous violin soloist Daniel Nodel.

The Greek island of Samos has a millennial history. It was the place where the world-famous philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras laced the laws of music by discovering the foundation of the tonal system 2500 years ago. Due to its key geographical location, it has lately become a passage for thousands of refugees and migrants, and hosts more than 1000 refugees today.

Samos, a place of unique historical and current significance, offers the optimal location to celebrate the universal language of music which connects people across cultural, religious and linguistic borders like no other.
