Abha Dawesar (born January 1, 1974) is an Indian novelist who writes most of her work in English. Dawesar is a Harvard graduate who was awarded a New York Foundation of the Arts fiction fellowship. She currently lives in New York City.

Biography[edit]

Abha Dawesar is the author of five critically acclaimed novels and the recipient of numerous honors including the American Library Association's Stonewall Award, a Lambda Literary Award for 2005 and A New York Foundation of the Arts fellowship in fiction. She has spoken at several international conferences including the Women’s Forum for Economy and Society, the Womensphere Global Summit, and TED Global. Her TED talk has over 900,000 views. Dawesar has spoken, read or conducted seminars in the U.S., Europe, Australia, the UK, and India. She was named on the 40 under 40 list by the Feminist Press in NY, listed as one of 25 people to make their mark by Time Out New York and called one of twenty-five path-breaking Indians by India's leading weekly magazine India Today. She has also been at writer’s residencies at the Hawthornden Castle (Scotland), Villa Marguerite Yourcenar (France), Passa Porta (Belgium) and Le Diable Vauvert (France). A visual artist, Dawesar has had on-and-off training in photography starting with a plastic 115mm camera when she was a teenager. Her most recent novel Sensorium (American edition releasing soon) includes doodles and cartoons. Her works include pen and ink drawings, paintings, installations, and photogrpahs.
