Alain Gest (born December 27, 1950) is a UMP (Union for a Popular Movement) member of the French National Assembly for the fourth constituency of Somme, in northern France. In April 2014, Gest also became the President of the Amiens Métropole.

Gest also played Table Tennis at the National Level in France in the early 1980's.

Political Career

Alain Gest began a life of politics at the age of 18, joining -and soon after; leading- the FNEF (French National Student Union).

In 1975, Gest joined the National Federation of Republicans and Independents (FNRI), which became the French Republican Party in 1977.

In 1986, Gest was elected to the Municipal Council of Picardie and served on the Council's Finance Commission. He served on the Municipal Council until 1993, when he was first elected to the French National Assembly.

From 1993-1997, Gest served as the member of the Nation Assembly for the sixth constituency of Somme, but was defeated in 1997 by Jacques Fleury, a member of the French Socialist Party. In 2002 however, Gest won the seat again as a member of the UMP and was reelected in 2007, winning with a differential of 712 votes.

In 2012, Gest moved to the fourth constituency of Somme where he again won reelection to the National Assembly. In the National Assembly, Gest has worked as rapporteur (Parliamentary Reporter of proceedings) for a number of UMP bills.

Education

Alain Gest studied Law at Lycée Louis Thuillier and received a Master's degree in Private Law in 1975.
