Alan Baird Ferguson was born in Australia on September 16th, 1943. He has been a member of the Australian Senate since May 1992 representing South Australia. In 2007, he became the 22nd President of the Australian Senate succeeding Senator Paul Calvert of Tasmania.

Political Career[edit]

Alan Ferguson worked as self-employed insurance consultant from 1985 to 1992. He joined the Liberal Party of Australia and was elected Senator for South Australia in 1993, serving until 2011. From 1996 to 2007, he served as temporary Chair of Committees, and presided the Senate from 2007 to 2008. Since 2008, he is acting as the deputy President of the Senate and Chair of Committees.

Education[edit]

Alan Ferguson graduated from the Weetulta Rural School and the Scotch College in Adelaide.
