Barenboim, Daniel (November 15, 1942 - )[edit]

Israeli-Argentine born pianist and conductor. Throughout his career he has served as the music director of several major symphonic and operatic orchestras and has made numerous recordings. He is the current music director of the Berlin State Opera, the Staatskapelle Berlin, and La Scala in Milan. Barenboim is known for his work with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, which is an orchestra made up of young Israelis and Arab musicians. He is also a critic of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. He has won numerous prestigious prizes for his work.
