Born in 1920 in Livorno, he graduated in humanities in Pisa’s Normale University, Carlo Azeglio worked for many years in the Banca d’Italia until he became director in the 70s. From 1993 to 1994 he was called to form a technical government of which he was appointed the leader after the collapse of the Italian eleventh legislature. The Ciampi Cabinet resigned on 1994 but Ciampi continued his political career as the Treasury, Balance and Economic Planning Minister for the twelfth legislature and honorary governor of the Bank of Italy.
