Clarence Eduard McKnight was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on September 9th of 1929. He rose to general officer status and deputy commandant and commandant of the Signal Training Center and commanding general of the Fort Gordon 1976.

Military Career

McKnight served in United States, Korea, France, Germany, India, El Salvador, Panama and Vietnam. After the Vietnam war McKnight command a Signal battalion, two Signal Groups, and the 5th Signal Command in Germany during the height of the Cold War. McKinght was a Deputy Commandant, Commandant of the Signal Training Centre, Command the Army's Signal Corps and introduced computer directed warfare during Desert Storm, CG of Fort Gordon, Georgia, Command of the Army Communications Command, Major Army Command, Director of Command, Control and Communications in the Office of the Joint Chiefs of State and 3 star commander of Army Communications Command. McKnight retired from active duty in 1987. He got involved in national-level telecommunications as a Director of Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence Plans and Programs by joining Booz Allen Hamilton. In 1988 he became the Chair of the National Advisory Committee of National Science Center. In 1992 co-founded the Community Learning and Information Network. McKnight retired from from Booz Allen Hamilton in 1998. Clarence McKnight developed the National Guard's Distributive Training Technology Project (DTTP) – a platform that enables the National Guard and local first-responders to easily coordinate vitally important training and communications.

Education

Clarence Eduard McKnight graduated from West Point in 1952. He graduated from the U.S Military Academy and from University of Michigan in the School of Engineering.

McKnight has been awarded several medals and awards for his distinguished service and conduct.

  • West Point 2008 Distinguished Graduate Award
  • The Smithsonian Society award the National Guard's Distributive Training Technology Project (DTTP) for visionary use of information technology.
