Edgar Franke

Dr. Edgar Franke is a member of the SPD and was born on January 21, 1960 in Gudensberg, Germany. He is a lawyer and academic by profession.

Political Career

Between 1978 to 1982, Franke was a member of the Young Socialists’ (SPD’s youth organization) sub district board. In 1982, he was a member of the Students' Parliament of the University of Marburg, and from 1985 to 1989 a member of the Edermünde municipal council. From 1997 to 1999, he acted as the vice-chairman of the Gudensberg City Council. He was the mayor of Gudensberg from 1999 to 2008. Since 2001, he has been a member of the Schwalm-Eder district council, member of the district board since 2000, and since 2011, treasurer of the SPD Hessen-Nord. Franke has been a member of the Bundestag since 2009.

Education

Franke studied politics and law in Marburg and Gießen. He completed his first and second state examinations, and obtained a PhD specializing in community law.
