Starting in 1989, she was appointed as the Federal Minister for Science and Research till 1991. She then became the leader of the Ministry for Science and Research from 1991 to 1994. She was a member of the Vienna provincial government from 1976 to 1978, and again from 1987 to 1989. Starting in 1978, she was a member of the municipal council of Vienna, as well as a member of the Vienna State Parliament till 1983.
