Farhan Akhtar was born in Mumbai in January the 9th, 1974. He is an Indian film director, screenwriter, producer, actor, playback singer, lyricist and television host. After completing his schooling in Maneckji Cooper school and dropping out from HR College, he started his film career by working as an assistant director in Lamhe (1991) and Himalay Putra(1997). In 2001, Akhtar made his debut as a film director with the movie Dil Chahta Hai, after setting up a production company called Excel Entertainment.

Philanthropic Donations[edit]

After the success of his film “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” and the signing of several endorsement deals, Farhan Akhtar decided to donate the money to charity, in particular Shabana Azmi's Mijwan Welfare society and Magic Bus.

Notable Actions[edit]

In August 2012, Farhan Akhtar launched a social campaign called “Men Against Rape and Discrimination” (MARD). For that, the UN Women named him as its first male goodwill ambassador.
