Bayer is a German company with a history of over 100 years, they focus in the fields of agriculture and health care. Their aim is to improve the health of humans, animals and plants, by developing new molecules for innovative products.
Besides focusing on their core competencies, Bayer has been encouraging physical activities and promoting sport. In 1904, when the management agreed to the request for a sports club to be set up, the first Bayer sport club was established in Germany called “Turn- und Spielverein der Farbenfabriken vorm. Friedr. Bayer & Co”.
The growth of the company led to participation in sports at the championship level. The Bayer employees were very driven and Bayer expanded the sporting activities which they support.
Today, Bayer is one of the biggest German sports patrons and sponsors. They have a strong affinity with disabled sports and youth sports. Since 2000 Bayer has been a loyal sponsor of the National Paralympic Committee Germany (DBS). The sponsorship of disabled people consists of 3 pillars: sponsoring of the TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen Disabled Sports Department, sponsoring of the National Paralympic Committee Germany and the Herbert Grünewald Foundation for the promotion of sports possibilities for the disabled and the “Simply Soccer” initiative. Bayer wants to help raise the profile and increase the acceptance of disabled sports in Germany. They want disabled people to draw courage from their idols and to be more confident in life.
During the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro members of the Bayer Club will be participating in different fields. In track and field Heinrich Popow and Markus Rehm will be representing Bayer.
As well as supporting disabled athletes, Bayer also encourage young people to practice a sport during their whole life. Sports is a key element of the personality development of young people.
Children can develop their athletic talents from hobbies and recreational sports to competitive and championship sports due to the “Bayer” sports club.
Talented young athletes find the best possible training conditions at “Bayer” sports clubs, including an ideal infrastructure. There’s qualified coaching staff available and an interdisciplinary approach. Thanks to Bayer’s support, young athletes have the opportunity to concentrate on developing their sporting talents to their full potential.
