Castellucci joined the SPD in 1991.  He has been the local branch chairman of the SPD Wiesloch from 1995-2001. He is a member of the municipal council in Wiesloch since 1999. He  equally is aChairman of the SPD Parliamentary Group. In addition to this, he was the District Chairman of the SPD Rhein-Neckar from 2001-2009. He is the Deputy Chairman of the SPD Baden-Württemberg. Moreover, He entered candidacy for the German Parliament in the constituency Rhein-Neckar for the first time in 2009. He is a member of the County Council in the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis since 2009 and he is the deputy social policy spokesman of the SPD.
