Marija Bačič was born on 25 August 1947. She is a member of the Social Democrats (SD; Slovene: Socialni demokrati) and a member of the National Assembly (Državni zbor Republike Slovenije).

Political Career[edit]

Since 1998 Bačič has been a member of the Commission for the Placement of Children with Special Needs at the Institute of Education of the Republic of Slovenia. In 1998 she became the chairperson of Sožitje, an organization that helps people with intellectual disabilities in Murska Sobota. From 2000 until 2004 she was the deputy chairperson of Sožitje. From 2002 until 2014 she was the chairperson of the Social Democrats in the Partizan District in Murska Sobota. Since 2008 she has been the chairperson of the Commission for the Placement of Children with Special Needs at the Institute of Education of the Republic of Slovenia. Bačič's mandate in the National Assembly began in 2014. She is the deputy chairperson of the Committee on Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Disability, a member of the Commission for Relations with Slovenes in Neighbouring and Other Countries, a member of the Culture Committee,

Education[edit]

Bačič graduated from the Faculty of Education at the University of Ljubljana in 1973.
