President of the House of Representatives

Yiannakis Omirou was born in Pafos in 1951. He is a Greek/Cypriot politician and lawyer.

Political Career

He was the Representative of Pafos constituency under the banner of the Socialist Party EDEK (SK EDEK) for the period 1981-1998, under the banner of the Social Democrats Movement (KISOS) for the period 2001-2003, under the banner of KS EDEK for the period 2003-2006 and representative of Nicosia constituency under the banner of KS EDEK since 2006. On 2 June 2011 he was elected President of the House of Representatives for the Tenth Term of Office of the House.

Education

He graduated in Law from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.JHe speaks English.

Notable Work

He was editor and broadcaster at the Pafos Free Radio Station during the coup of 15 July 1974 (arrested and imprisoned by the coupists).
