Shilpa Shetty

Shilpa Shetty Kundra was born on June 8th, 1975. She is an Indian film actress and model. She was born in Mangalore. In Mumbai, she attended St Anthony’s Girls High School in Chembur and later attended Podar College in Matunga. She made her Bollywood debut in 1993 starring in the film Baazigar. Subsequently she has gone on to appear in nearly 40 Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films. In particular her roles in Dhadkan (2000), Rishtey (2002) and Phir Milenge won her great acclaim. In 2007 she went on to become the winner of British Celebrity Big Brother 5 reality TV Series winning with 63% of the final vote.

Engagement in Cultural Diplomacy[edit]

In March 2014, Shilpa and her husband Raj Kundra came up with a show Soney Ka Dil. The Show format is based on highlighting ordinary people who have contributed their help to others in need.

Humanitarian Causes[edit]

In 2006, she lent her support to a BBC World Service Trust Television Show which was created in order to tackle the problem of HIV/Aids in India. This show involved Shetty and a number of other celebrities shadowing young underachievers who wished to raise awareness about the condition. This was an issue that concerned her deeply ever since she portrayed a HIV-positive sufferer in the film Phir Mileenge. In March 2006 she also joined [www.peta.org PETA] for an advertising campaign against the use of wild animals in circuses. She was able to assist the campaign by posing for photographs in a figure-hugging tiger costume in order to exemplify how uncomfortable it was for the animals kept in cages.

Philanthropic Donations[edit]

When she won Celebrity Big Brother in 2007, she donated her winnings to Indian Aids Awareness campaigns.
