Stefaan Van Hecke

Stefaan Van Hecke was born on January 4th 1973 in Gent (Belgium). He is a member of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives for the Flemish Green Party (Groen).

Political Career

Van Hecke started his political career in 1990 in the local Agalev (predecessor of Groen) group in Merelbeke and he was co-founder of the Agelev youth party in 1992. In 1996, he got elected as councillor in the province of Oost Vlaanderen, a position he kept until 2006. He went later to the local level as councillor in Merelbeke. Since 2007, Stefaan Van Hecke has held a seat in the Belgian Chamber of Representatives for Groen.

Education

He graduated in law from the University of Gent, and specialised in environmental science at the University of Antwerp.
