Vicente Alberto Álvarez Areces was born in Gijón (Asturias) on the 4th August of 1943, Vicente Alberto Álvarez Areces is a spanish politician and senator of the 10th term for the Socialist Worker's Party.

Political Career

Vicente Álvarez Areces started his political career as Director of the province's Education Ministry (1983-1987). After that he bacame chef of the education superintendet service of Spain. In 1987 Vicente Álvarez is elected as Mayor of the city of Gijón (Principality of Asturias). He was reelected for three terms more until 1999 when he became President of the Principality of Asturias (1999-2011). In 2011 he was chosen senator.

Education

Vicente Alberto Álvarez Areces holds two degrees in Industrial Technical Engineer and in exact sciences with a distinction. Sice 1981 until 2011 he combined his political career with the academia working as a profesor of statistics in the University of Oviedo.
