Editing Lord Woolf

The Rt Hon. Lord Woolf is a Crossbench member of the House of Lords. He joined the House of Lords in October 1992 and he was most recently a member of the Inquiries Act 2005 Committee.

He has been a member of the Sub-Committee on Lords’ Conduct; a member of the Constitution Committee; a member of the Privileges and Conduct Committee for Lords; and a member of the Inquiries Act 2005 Committee.

== Notable Work ==

Lord Woolf began his career as a barrister in 1955. He became Junior Counsel to the Inland Revenue in 1973. In 1979 he was appointed as a Queen’s Bench Division High Court judge. In 1986 he was promoted to Lord Justice of Appeal. He was then appointed as a Law Lord in October 1992, being created a life peer for the London Borough of Richmond. 

In June 2000 he succeeded Lord Bingham of Cornhill as Lord Chief Justice. He retired from this post in 2005 and joined Blackstone Chambers as a mediator and arbitrator. He is the chairman of the Bank of England Financial Markets Law Committee. He has also served as Chancellor of the Open University of Israel since 2004.
