Mirko Tomassoni was Captain Regent of San Marino for a six-month term from October 2007 to March 2008, serving together with Alberto Selva.
Fourteen years ago, when Tomassoni was working as a police officer, he had an accident after which he became a wheelchair user. As a result of this, he founded the organisation, Attivia-Mente, to improve awareness of disability among all people.
He was elected in June 2006 to the Grand and General Council as an independent on the list of the Party of Socialists and Democrats. 
On October 1, 2007 Mirko Tomassoni was elected as one of the heads of state, making him the first disabled person to ever have been elected as captain regent.
