Carlos Aragonés Mendiguchía started his political career under the mentor-ship of Antonio Fontán, who was a Minister in the of Government of Adolfo Suarez. During his youth, he was affiliated to the Youth Organisation of Liberal Union in the early 1980s. He then joined Alianza Popular in 1987. A few months later he was appointed as Chief of the Cabinet by the then President of the Regional Government of Leon-Castile Jose María Aznar. In 1990, he became Secretary of Studies and Programs of the People's Party (PP), and three years after that he started joined the PP's National Executive Committee.
