In 2009 he was appointed Cathaoirleach (Chairman) of Ógra Fianna Fáil by then Taoiseach and President of Fianna Fáil Brian Cowen at the National Youth Conference. In 2011 he was elected to the Seanad Éireann on the Cultural and Educational Panel. He is the Fianna Fáil Seanad spokesperson on Public Expenditure and Reform.
