Torsten Albig, was born in Bremen in 1963. Since 1984 he has been a member of the SPD, a member of the Federal Council and Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein since 2012.
Political Career[edit]
In 1994 Torsten Albig became Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Schleswig-Holstein to the Federation and kept his mandate for two years until 1996. He began his career as a member of the SPD-planning staff in 1996 until 1998. From 1998 to 2001 Torsten Albig worked for the Federal Ministry of Finance. He retired from the civil service in 2001 and began work for Dresdner Bank AG as a spokesman in Frankfurt am Main. From 2002 to 2006 he was the head of the department and city council in the state capital Kiel. He went on to work as Speaker of the Federal Finance Minister Steinbrück from 2006 to 2009. Furthermore, he was the Lord Mayor of the City of Kiel from 2009 to 2012.
Education[edit]
Torsten Albig graduated from German secondary school in 1982 with the Abitur (A-Level). Subsequently, he studied History and Social Sciences at Bielefeld. In 1991 he underwent the civil service examination at the Higher Regional Court of Dusseldorf. Furthermore he was active in the tax administration of Schleswig-Holstein in 1992. He was then Deputy Head of Landesfinanzschule Schleswig-Holstein in Malente from 1993 to 1994.
