Ericsson is a Swedish multinational provider of communications technology and services. Ericsson is headquartered in Stockholm. The company employs more than 110,000 people and works with customers in more than 180 countries, including the US, China, India, Brazil, Japan, South Africa, Australia, Germany, Italy, the UK, and Sweden.

Engagement in Cultural Diplomacy[edit]

Ericsson’s engagement in Cultural Diplomacy is relatively high, since they are active supporters of female rights within the workplace, respect human rights and are against discrimination of any kind. Besides that, they are also involved in humanitarian aid. Moreover, they offer various internship and international job opportunities.

Employment policy[edit]

Their ‘Code of Business Ethics’ includes a statement about discrimination in the workplace. Examples of these includes -‘’No employee should be discriminated against because of e.g. race, color, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy, parental status, religion, political opinion, nationality, ethnic background, social origin, social status, disability, age or union membership.’’ Additionally, Ericsson actively engages in the promotion of female rights on the work floor. They support different initiatives and companies that aim to strengthen the position of women in business.

International Internship Programs On their website, Ericsson offers different internships, summer job, master thesis work or graduate job opportunities in various different countries.

Grants and Scholarships Ericsson offers ‘’early career programs’’. Firstly, the Business Excellence Early Career Program. This is an 18-months program for recent graduate students. In this program, participants build experience by participating in cross-functional job rotations and industry-relevant learning modules. Participants also take on strategic project assignments as part of a global team. Secondly, the R&D Global Graduate Program. This is an 18-month global experience program, where participants get the opportunity to meet with top R&D managers and leaders and attend courses that give an overview of ericsson’s innovative technology and research, their people and the customers they serve. The third program is the 18-month Excellerate Global Leadership Program. This program is for people that want to become a world-class leader. Participants will involve international exposure and direct customer interface. Job rotations will be complemented by learning modules designed to help refine important professional skills and understand Ericsson as a global business.

Notable Activities[edit]

Activities in the Field of Humanitarian Aid[edit]

Ericsson is actively involved in the humanitarian aid, for instance in Pakistan,Haiti,Asia (after the tsunamis), in Afghanistan and in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They provide funds, Wireless Emergency and telecommunication equipment.

Promoting Human and Civil Rights[edit]

On their website Ericsson highlights that they respect all international human rights including the International Bill of Human Rights. They also respect the principles concerning fundamental rights set out in the International Labour Organisation´s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. Additionally, Ericsson wanted to embed a human rights framework across the company. During 2013 Ericsson completed the first of a two-year engagement with the Business Learning Program of the non-profit center for Business and Human Rights, Shift. This program had four aims: to strengthen their human rights framework, to develop a Human Rights Impact Assessment (HRIA) process, to Increase internal competence and to gain an external view on how they implement their human rights commitment. Moreover, Ericsson produced a report in May 2013 on, “ICT and Human Rights – An Ecosystem Approach.” It was first presented at the Stockholm Internet Forum in May 2013, and intended as a springboard for multi- stakeholder dialogue and collaboration to minimize the risks of misuse of technology while maximizing its potential to further human rights.
