Ewan McGregor, born in Scotland 31 March 1971, is an actor who has had success in mainstream, indie, and art house films. He received Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor – Musical or Comedy for both Moulin Rouge! and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. In 2010 McGregor won Best Actor for playing the title role in Roman Polanski's film The Ghost Writer at the 23rd European Film Awards. McGregor has a tenor singing voice.

Being an ambassador for UNICEF to the UK Ewan McGregor has been involved with many projects such as, an “appeal for the fragile existence of babies who owe their lives to Soccer Aid and Unicef in India”, “Appeal for the children of the Sahel”, UNICEF Winter Appeal: “No Place Like Home” in regard to Syrian Refugees. He also supports the “Children’s Hospice Association Scotland” (CHAS) which works exclusively with children with life limiting conditions and their families; “GO Campaign” which dedicates its efforts to empowering orphans and vulnerable children throughout the world to secure a better future; or “Luke Neuhedel Foundation” which seeks for the improvement of the quality of life for children with cancer through education, research, and aid to families in need. Ewan McGregor also participates in other programs and organizations such as “Small Steps Project”, “Medicinema”, “Riders For Health”, “Sense”, “Sightsavers International”, “21st Century Leaders” or “Whatever It Takes”
Notable Actions[edit]
In 2004 Ewan McGregor started “Long Way Round”, a motorbike adventure with Charley Boorman to visit UNICEF projects in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Mongolia. In 2007 he continued it in a second adventure to visit the UNICEF’s work with child soldiers in Uganda and land-mine awareness programs in Ethiopia. In 2010 Ewan McGregor visited Peru with Soccer Aid UNICEF program to raise awareness of child poverty and malnutrition. In 2013 he starred the BBC program: Ewan McGregor: Cold Chain Mission, in which he travelled to India, Nepal and Congo. The same year, Ewan McGregor sang with Robbie Williams, who is an UNICEF ambassador too, to raise money for charity. The event raised over £40,000 In 2014 McGregor participated in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games with a speech on the night of the Opening Ceremony on the BBC, and calling on viewers to Put Children First around the Commonwealth which helped to raise over £5 million for children.
