Leos Heger was born on February the 11th, 1948 in Hradec Kralove. He is a Czech physician, university teacher and politician of the TOP 09 party. From July 2010 to July 2013 he was a Minister of Health and became the longest serving health minister in the post-communist era. Since 2010 he has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies and in December 2013.
Education[edit]
After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové he remained on the faculty as its employee and a doctor of the University Hospital.
Political career[edit]
Since the early 90s he was active not only at the faculty (as Vice Dean for Development), but gradually became a member of the Scientific Council of the Ministry of Health, Chairman of the Hospital Association and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Internal Grant Agency of the Ministry of Health. In the period between 1993 and 2009 he was the medical deputy and later the director of the University Hospital Hradec Králové. Between 2002 and 2006 he was elected as a candidate for ODS councilor of Hradec Kralove. In 2010 he was elected a Member of the Chamber of Deputies and later became Minister of Health, which was to fall of the government until July 10, 2013. In autumn 2013 he was reelected a Member of the Chamber of Deputies.
