José Duarte de Almeida Ribeiro e Castro was born in Lisbon on the 24th December 1953.
Political Career[edit]
José Ribeiro e Castro was leader of the People´s Party from 2005 to 2007 and is a member of the European Parliament. He is currently part of the European Affairs and Agriculture and Sea Commissions´ in the Portuguese National Parliament. He was a member of EPP, ED group coordinator at the Human Rights Subcommittee in the European Parliament; Member and Chairman of Sintra´s Municipal Assembly; Legal adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security; Member of the Higher Council for Social Policy of the Ministry of Social Affairs; Adviser and Assistant to the Ministry of Education and Secretary of State in the Deputy Prime Minister´s Office.

He is a Graduate in Law (Lisbon, 1975).
