Peter Gauweiler (CDU/CSU) Member of German Parliament

Peter Gauweiler (born June 22, 1949 in Munich, Bavaria) is a German politician, and a member of Bavaria's Christian Social Union (CSU) in the German Bundestag, where he represents Munich South. Gauweiler is considered a Euro-sceptic and made a name with partly successful constitutional complaints against the euro bailout fund and the Lisbon Treaty.

Political Career[edit]

Between 1972 and 1982 he was a member of Munich city council. Following this he was head of the County Government for the city of Munich until 1990 when he was elected as a member of the Bavarian Government. He left this post in 2002. Between October 1986 and October 1990 He was Secretary of the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior, October 1990-March 1994 Bavarian State Minister for State Development and Environmental Affairs. He has been a member of the Bundestag since 2002 and was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Culture and Media in the 15th electoral term.
