Maria Ester Vargas de Almeida e Silva was born on March 28th, 1955. She currently serves as a deputy in the Portuguese National Parliament and she practices as a professor.

She is a Social Democratic Deputy elected by the electoral circle of Viseu for the XII Legislature (2011-2015). She is a Commissioner at the Parliamentary Commission for International Affairs and Portuguese Communities and an alternate at the Education, Science and Culture Parliamentary Commission.
