Craig Whittaker was born on August 30, 1962 in Radcliffe, Lancashire. He is a member of the Conservative Party and has been an MP for Calder Valley since May 2010.
Political career[edit]
Craig worked for the private sector for many years before becoming an MP. From 1998-2003 he was a member of Heptonstall Parish Council. In 2003, Whittaker was elected to serve on Calderdale Borough Council for the Rastrick ward. He worked as the lead cabinet member for children and young people from 2007-2010. Furthermore, he was the chairman of the Calder Valley Conservative Association from 2005-06. In March 2007 he was nominated to be the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Calder Valley. He was voted into Parliament to represent the Calder Valley on the 6th May 2010 with a majority of 6,431.

Whittaker was educated at Belmont High School in New South Wales, Australia.
Notable work[edit]
Craig founded and has chaired a local Calderdale charity, TLC (Together for Looked After Children), since March 2010. Its focus is to ensure that looked after children are able to have the same education options as other children.
