Carlos Aragonés Mendiguchía started his political career under the auspices of Antonio Fontán, who was Minister of Government of Adolfo Suarez. During his youth, he was affiliated to the Youth Organisation of Liberal Union in the early 80's, then he joined Alianza Popular in 1987. A few months latter he was appointed as Chef of the Cabinet by the then President of the Regional Government of Leon-Castile Jose María Aznar. In 1990 he became Secretary of Studies and Programs of the People's Party (PP), and three years after that he started being member of PP's National Executive Committee.
