George William Vella is the current Minister for Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament in the House of Representatives of Malta.
Political Career[edit]
Vella joined the Labour Party (PL) and he started his parliamentary career in 1978. He was appointed leader of Malta Delegation to the Conference of Local and Regional Authorities (Council of Europe)in 1978. He was elected substitute Member of Parliament to Parliamentary Assembly (Council of Europe) in 1982. He became a member of the Parliamentary Delegation for relations with the European Parliament in 1986.
He returned to Parliament in 1992 and he was elected Deputy Leader for Parliamentary Affairs and main spokesman of the Opposition on Foreign Affairs.
