Joris Jacob Clemens Voorhoeve, born on December 22, 1945, is a Dutch politician and university professor who served as the former Dutch Minister of Defense and is the Chair of the Board of Supervisors Oxfam International.
Political Career
From 1986 to 1990, he served as leader of the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy. In 1994, he was appointed Minister of Defence, and served until 1998. He left the VVD in 2010 and joined the Democrats 66 party. Joris Voorhove is also a member of the Dutch Council of State, the Dutch Foreign Ministry's Advisory Council on International Affairs and the Trilateral Commission. In 2013, he was appointed as Chair Board of Supervisors Oxfam International.
Education
Joris Voorhove graduated in Development Economics from the University of Wageningen and Political Science from the University of Leiden in 1971. He also graduated with a Master’s in International Relations from the John Hopkins University in 1972, and with a PhD in Social Sciences in 1973.
