Alfred Sant was born in Malta on Februay 28th, 1948. He led the Labour party from 1992 to 2008 and from 1996 to 1998 he served as Prime Minister of Malta.
Political Career
Alfred Sant has had an extensive career in politics and business, for example he has worked as the first and second secretary at the Maltese Mission to Brussels where he specialised in European Affairs and Bilateral Relations with Western European countries from 1970 and 1975. Sant was also Executive Deputy Chairan of the Malta Development Corporation (MDC). In 1972 Alfred Sant became more involved in the political world as the Chairman of Malta’s Labour Party information department and from then promoted to the Chairman of the Maltese Labour Party which he served as for four years from 1984 until 1988. Currently Sant is an MP for the Maltese Labour Party following his two year stint as Maltese Prime Minister from 1996 to 1998 and Labour Leader from 1992 until 1998.
Education
Alfred Sant received both his BSc and MSc degrees in Physics from the University of Malta. Following this he was awarded an MBA with high honours from Boston University in the United States of America and also a DBA from Harvard Business School. Alfred Sant was also a recipient of the ‘Institut International d’Administration Publique’ (I.I.A.P.) diploma in Public Administration and Diplomacy.
