Biography

Silvana Amati was born in 1947 in Senigallia. He has a son, Lorenzo, 25 years. After high school she graduated in Natural Sciences at the University of Bologna and in Biological Sciences at the University of Urbino. Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ancona. She has dealt with Electron Microscopy and his studies have been published by numerous Italian and foreign journals.

Political career

She was elected councilor in Senigallia, she held the position of Councillor for Culture designing and implemented various events of the National Conference on "When the state is woman". She was the first woman to chair the Regional Council of the Marches. As President of the Commission for the reform of the Statute of the Marches, she has completed the work of drafting the new constitution and the new regional electoral law. She was National Coordinator of the Committees for the reforms of the Statutes and Laws election of the Italian regions. She also chaired the Conference of Presidents of Regional Councils and, in that capacity, he led the Italian delegation of Presidents in Oviedo (with the purpose of establishing the Conference of Presidents of the Regional Councils in Europe). She was Vice President of the National Coordination of Local Authorities for Peace, that organizes the march Perugia - Assisi. She was also in the executive of Dossetti National Committees for the Defence of the Constitution. The President of the Republic Oscar Luigi Scalfaro has conferred to Ms. Amati the honor of Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. In 2001 he was elected Secretary of the Federation of the Left Democrats of Ancona, a position confirmed in the Provincial Congress of 2004. Since 2005 , she is member of the National Secretariat of the DS, where she was primarily responsible for the education policy and the coordinator of the Local Authorities . Since 2006, as a senator , she was a member of the Committees on Constitutional Affairs , European Union policies and the Bicameral Commission for Regional Affairs . She has been the first signatory of legislative proposals about gender representation, about immigration issues and about the culture of peace. In 2007 she was elected to the Constituent Assembly of the National Democratic Party and was then called to be part of the Commission for the Rules of the Democratic Party. In the general elections on 13 and 14 April 2008 she was re-elected to the Senate. On 6 May 2008 was elected to the Council of the Presidency of the Senate. On 20 June 2008 he was elected a member of the National Leadership of the Democratic Party . Subsequently she was elected as a Director of the Presidency of the Senate. Her work during the last legislation mainly concerned proposals about issues of animal welfare, human rights and the promotion of a culture of peace. Particular attention was also paid to the problems expressed by the maintenance of the service of the transports network (TrenItalia), to respond primarily to the needs and to the grievances steadily drove by commuters .
