Biography[edit]
John M. Hobson is Professor of Politics and International Relations at the University of Sheffield in the UK. He began his teaching career in 1991 in Australia, holding a position at La Trobe University in Melbourne until 1997, and then taught at the University of Sydney until 2004.
At the University of Sheffield, Hobson is principally involved with teaching modules in: The Politics of Globalization; Civilization, Empire and Hegemony; and Theories and Issues in International Political Economy. These modules directly compliment his own personal research, which focuses on inter-civilizational relations and everyday political economy in the context of globalization.
Education[edit]
Professor Hobson gained his PhD from the LSE in 1991.
Notable Work[edit]
Prof. Hobson was rewarded for his dedication to teaching and research with the faculty teaching PRIZE for teaching excellence at the University of Sydney in 1999. Prof. Hobson has had numerous books and articles published, including The Eurocentric Conception of World Politics: Western International Theory, 1760-2010, and The Eastern Origins of Western Civilization, which has been published in nine different languages.
