Currently he teaches Contemporary History at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, position that he combines with his active political life. Right after that he became the Minister for Education and Culture in the first regional Government of José Bono Martínez. In 1988 he took up the position of regional Minister for Institutional Relations but shortly afterwards was forced to give away the position in order to become regional vice-president. He held this position until the following year, when he was appointed to represent Castilla-La Mancha in the Congreso de los Diputados. Since then, he has held different positions in and out of the Parliament but is currently one of its members. | ||

José María Barreda Fontes is a Spanish politician, member of the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Worker's Party), academic and current parlamentarian in the "Congreso de los Diputados", or Spanish Parliament.
Political Career
Born in Ciudad Real on January the 4th, 1953 from a Spanish noble family, he then graduated in university and holds a BA in philosophy, as well as a doctorate in history and geography. Currently he teaches Contemporary History at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, position that he combines with his active political life.
