David Assouline was born in 1959 in Morocco and is a member of the Senate of France, for the constituency of Paris. Assouline has been involved in politics since 1995, when he became a member of the Socialist Party. Since 2003, he joined the party's National Council. He was elected in 2004 and re-elected in 2011, representing the Senate Socialist Group.

David Assouline is the President of the Senatorial Commission for Control and Application of Laws, and the Vice-President of the Commission on Culture, Education and Communication. He is also a member of the Study Board on media and new technologies and sport, Municipal Councillor of Paris (20th arrondissement); member of the Group for Interparlamentarian Union (UIP); member of the National Centre of Cinema and Images; member of the Commission of Modernization and Audio-visual Broadcasting.
