Sheila Gilmore was born on 1st October 1949 in Aberdeen, Scotland. She is a British Labour Party politician, who has been MP for the constituency of Edinburgh East since 2010. She is married and has 4 children.
Education[edit]
She studied History and Politics at the University of Kent. After graduating she undertook a post-graduate teaching qualification at the University of Edinburgh. Gilmore then returned to the University of Edinburgh to study Law.
Political Career[edit]
Sheila Gilmore was elected as Labour Councillor for Moredun in 1991. She retained this position until she stood down from the council in 2007. Gilmore was selected to be the Labour Party candidate for Edinburgh East in April 2009. She was elected in the General Election on 6th May 2010.
