The Rt Hon. Benedict Gummer is a British Conservative Party politician and MP for the constituency of Ipswich. He currently serves as the Parliamentary Private Secretary to Secretary of State for Education, Nicky Morgan. Gummer defeated MP Chris Mole and became MP for the Ipswich constituency in the general election of 2010, enjoying the largest majority of any Conservative in Ipswich since 1935.

Political Career[edit]

In parliament, Gummer served in the House of Commons Justice Committee, as well as the House of Commons Committee on Regulatory Reforms from 2010-12, before being appointed Parliamentary Adviser to Lord Andrew Feldman, the co-chairman of the Conservative Party. In 2013, Gummer became Parliamentary Private Secretary to Michael Gove, the Education Secretary at the time. As of the 2014 cabinet reshuffle, Gummer serves as the Private Secretary to Nicky Morgan, the current Education Secretary.

Education[edit]

Ben Gummer attended primary school at St Saviour's Church of England Primary School in Ealing, West London. From 1987-1991, he attended St John's College at Cambridge.
