She obtained a degree in Languages and Foreign Literature from the University "Luigi Bocconi" in Milan.
  
Barbara Pollastrini was born on September 30th 1947 in Darfo Boario Terme, Province of Brescia, Lombardia. She is a university professor and a Italian political and activist. During the Protests of 1968, she joined the Maoist organization Servire il Popolo, becoming also the director of the Milan office.

In 1992 she retired from politics when was incriminated for political corruption during the inquiry called Mani pulite (or Tangentopoli), until her acquittal in 1996.
 
She joined the Partito Democratico della Sinistra and in 1999 she become head of the women group of the Democrats of the Left.
 
During the general election in 2001 she was elected at the Chamber of Deputies.
 
On 17 May 2006 she was nominated Minister for Equal Opportunity untill May 8th 2008.
 
Since 23 May 2007 she has been a member of the National Committee for the Partito Democratico.
 
At the elections of February 24th and 25th 2013 she was elected at the Chamber of Deputies for the Partito Democratico. She is also Secretary of the Democratic Party at the Chamber of Deputies.

Barbara Pollastrini (September 30, 1947) is an Italian activist and politician.

She obtained a degree in Languages and Foreign Literature from the University "Luigi Bocconi" in Milan.

Former member and city coordinator in Milan for the Partito Comunista Italiano, she entered the Italian Chamber of Deputies in 1992 for Partito Democratico della Sinistra, serving as a member of Social Affairs Commission and in the Commission on the General Direction and Supervision of Broadcasting Services.

In 1996 she was absolved from the charge of corruption after an inquiry started from 1992 Mani Pulite scandal.

In 2001 she was elected again in the Chamber of Deputies for Democratici della Sinistra, working in the Foreign and Communitarian Affairs Commission, in the Constitutional, Presidential and Internal Affairs Commission and in the European Policy Commission.
