Claude Bérit-Débat (born February 19, 1946) is a French Senator representing the Department of Dordogne and a member of the French Socialist Party.
Political Career[edit]
Bérit-Débat entered politics in 1989 when he was elected to the Municipal Council of Chancelade. In 1992, he became Mayor of Chancelade and remained in that position until 2009.
Bérit-Débat was first elected to the French Senate for the Department of Dordogne in 2008, defeating the incumbent UMP (Union for a Popular Movement) Senator Dominique Mortemousque.
In the Senate, Bérit-Débat has held a number of positions, including: Secretary of the Committee on Economy, Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning, Treasurer of the Socialist Party in the Senate, Vice-President of the Commission on Wines and Vines, Member of the Board of Directors of the Environment Agency and the Energy Management, and Member of the national tourism board.
Education[edit]
Bérit-Débat holds a Master's degree in Economics.
