Meryl Streep (born June 22, 1949) is an American actress and producer from Summit, New Jersey and is widely regarded as one of the greatest actresses of all time. Streep attended Bernards High School and received a BA in Drama from Vassar College in 1971. She also earned an MFA from the School of Drama. After playing supporting roles in films such as The Deer Hunter, Manhattan, and Kramer vs Kramer, Streep made her acting debut in the 1990’s acting in films such as Thelma and Louise, The Bridges of Madison County, and Stuck on You. Streep reached the height of her stardom in the 2000’s with films such as The Devil Wears Prada, Mamma Mia!, The Iron Lady, and most recently: August: Osage County.

Streep supports a number of social causes and charities including: Stand Up to Cancer, Equality Now, The Rainforest Foundation, Chime for Change, Healthy Child Healthy World, Artists for Peace and Justice, and many more.
Philanthropic Donations[edit]
Streep is an international role model for women and girls everywhere and helps numerous charities regularly. Most notably, she is the National Spokesperson for the National Women’s History Museum whom she has donated significant amounts of money and hosted numerous events. On October 4, 2012, Streep donated $1 million to The Public Theater in honor of its late founder, Joseph Papp, and her friend, the author Nora Ephron.

In 2014, Streep established two scholarships for students at the University of Massachusetts - the Meryl Streep Endowed Scholarship for English majors, and the Joan Hertzberg Endowed Scholarship for math majors.
