Born June 10th, 1950, Masaharu Nakagawa is a Japanese politician serving in Japan’s House of Representatives as a member of the Democratic Party of Japan.
Biography[edit]
Masaharu Nakagawa was elected for his first mandate in 1996. Before entering Diet, the Japanese bicameral legislature, he served in the Mie Prefectural Assembly for 12 years. He has served as a member on both the Committee on Security, and the Special Committee on Disasters.
Masaharu Nakagawa was a Senior Vice Education Minister under Yukio Hatoyama's Cabinet and Naoto Kan's first Cabinet. During those stints, he aimed to make Japanese language education policy for foreigners more effective. In September 2011, he was appointed to the responsibility of Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and then to the responsibility of Minister of State for Disaster Management. He is now the Acting Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Japan.
