Biography[edit]
Borghe Dahl was a Consumer Ombudsman, an independent supervisory authority appointed by the Business and Growth Ministry, which is responsible for overseeing that business abide by the various regulations and laws covering a wide field of marketing issues. In 1976 he became senior lecturer at the University of Copenhagen until 1981. Before being appointed as a judge at the Supreme Court in 1996, he would become professor of Business Law and Director of the Law Department at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) until 1996. That same year, through his recognizable work and effort, he was nominated, and then soon after, appointed to the Supreme Court of Denmark.
During his time in the Supreme Court, Dahl’s other functions included Vice Chairman of the Danish Labor Court from 1998-2003, where in the same year, he was elevated to Chairman of the Court. In addition, he was appointed during his time at the Supreme Court as Chairman of the Danish Competition Appeals Tribunal from 1997 until 2009. Likewise, he was member of CCJE, the Council of Europe Consultative Council of European Judges, from 2002 up until 2010, where he would thereupon be appointed President of the Supreme Court, replacing Judge Torben Melchior. He has since left his position in 2014 and now serves as editor of the Nordic Law Reports within the Danish department
Education[edit]
He graduated from Rungsted State School in 1963 and received his law degree in 1968. He was furthermore promoted to lieutenant of the Reserve Army in Denmark. Thereafter he became a Postgraduate fellow at the University of Copenhagen in 1972 until 1975. Dahl would take his studies abroad where he enrolled at the the University of Freiburg in West Germany and Cambridge in England from 1973 to 1974.
Notable Work[edit]
He has received the Brokerage prize in 1995 and the Award for Outstanding Textbooks by Copenhagen Business School Press in 1991.
Among other things he has published several works that focus on his area of specialties ranging from business law to commercial liabilty. Some of his works include: Produktansvar (Product Liability), Consumer Legislation in Denmark, Produktansvarsstudier (Product Liability Papers), co-author of Garantier (Guarantees), Erhvervs-og Produktansvarsforsikring (Commercial and Product Liability Insurance), co-editor of Danish Law in a European Perspective, and the 11th edition of Erhvervsjura (Business Law).
