Nicolas Alfonsi was born in 1936 and he is a member of the Senate of France, he was elected in 2001 for the constituency of South Corsica. He is the Vice-President of the European Democratic and Social Rally (Rassemblement démocratique et social européen, RDSE).

Nicolas Alfonsi began his career as a politician in Corsica, where he was appointed mayor of the city of Piana. He has also been a member of the European Parliament. Representing the Radical Left Party, "Mouvement Radical de Gauche", he has been member of the National Assembly from 1973 to 1978, and again since 1981.
