Michelle Gildernew was born on 28th March 1970 in Dongannon, Northern Ireland. She is an Irish Sinn Féin politician. She has been the MP for the constituency of Fermanagh and South Tyrone since 2001. Gildernew is Sinn Féin's health spokesperson and has been a member of the party's Ard Chomhairle (National Executive). She is married and has 3 children.
Education
Gildernew attended St Catherine's College Armagh and later the University of Ulster, Coleraine.
Political Career
In the 1998 Assembly elections, she was elected MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Ireland) for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, retaining the seat in the 2003 and 2007 elections. In the 2001 UK general election, Gildernew was elected to Parliament as Member for Fermanagh and South Tyrone. She was the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development in the Northern Ireland Executive between 2007-2011. She was also considered as a candidate for the 2011 presidential elections.
