Alain Chrétien (born March 17, 1975) is a UMP (Union for a Popular Movement) member of the French National Assembly for the first constituency of Haute-Saone, in northern France. In addition to serving in the National Assembly, Chrétien is also currently the Mayor of Vesoul.
Political Career
Chrétien began his political career in 2001 when he became the Parliamentary Assistant to the then French Senator and Mayor of Vesoul, Alian Joyandet.
From 2002-2005, Chrétien worked as a Municipal Councillor for Vesoul-West and he was appointed first deputy of Vesoul, with responsibility for finance and housing after the 2008 municipal elections.
In 2012, Alain Joyandet resigned as Mayor of Vesoul and Chrétien became the youngest Mayor of Vesoul since 1830, at the age of 37. The same year, Chrétien was elected to the National Assembly for Haute-Saone.
Education
Alain Chrétien recieved a Master's degree in Economics and Social Administration in 1995 at the University of Franché-Comté in Besancon. He also received an Advanced degree in Management of Local Authorities from the Institute of Policy Studies in Lyon in 1996.
Chrétien also served in the French Military until 1998.
