Justine Greening

Justine Greening was born on the 30th April 1969 in Rotherham, England. She is a member of the Conservative Party and has been the Member of Parliament for Putney since 2005. Before she entered parliament in 2005, Greening was a qualified accountant who worked for a number of companies including GlaxoSmithKline and Price Waterhouse Coopers.

Political Career

Greening’s first foray into politics came in 2001 when she contested the Ealing, Acton and Shepard’s Bush seat but she was unsuccessful at this attempt. However, in 2005 she was able to win her seat in Putney with 15,497 votes beating the current incumbent, Labours Tony Colman. Labour had held the seat since 1997.

In 2005, Greening was appointed a member of the Work and Pensions Committee as well as being made a Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party. In 2007, she won a promotion and was made a junior Shadow Minister of the Treasury. In the 2009 reshuffle she was promoted again to the position of Shadow Minister for London, within the Communities and Local Government team. She was responsible for Local Government Finance. After the Conservatives won the General Election in 2010, Greening served in a number of high profile posts. In 2011 she was made Transport Secretary and in 2012 she was made International Development Secretary after being replaced by Patrick McLoughlin.

Education

Justine Greening was educated at Oakwood Comprehensive School. She studied economics for her bachelor’s degree at the University of Southampton. She then went on to complete an MBA at the London Business School.
